Amortization describes the process in which income generated covers an investment made. In photovoltaics, the payback period describes how long it takes until the electricity yield of a system is higher than the investment costs. An example is a purchase of €800 and annual electricity income (electricity saved by the network operator €0.28/kWh * 600kWh annual yield) of €168. This roughly corresponds to the costs and income of a balcony power plant. The payback period is 4.76 years (€800/€168). From the 5th year onwards, the system works to maximize profits. Today in 2023 the payback is much faster. The system costs are less than €800, generate more power and the electricity costs are also significantly higher than the €0.28/kWh stated here.

For a balcony power plant, the payback is around 3-5 years, while classic house photovoltaics pay for themselves from around 15-18 years. The background is, among other things, the assembly costs and electrician costs, which are eliminated with a balcony power plant.

Here you can see graphically how the investment of €800 represents an expense in the year of purchase and then generates profits year after year. From the 5th year, the amortization year, a plus is generated. Here you can find our balcony power station 600W and balcony power station 800W
